This one has all the makings of a soap opera; a woman from the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks with sibling in tow, an invalided billionaire, two wealthy rivals…..AND TEXAS

Liberty Jones dreams of the wider world beyond Welcome, Texas, and has the determination to find it. She also has an untamed heart that leads her into trouble . . . and into the arms of Hardy Cates.

Liberty is forbidden fruit Hardy knows he shouldn’t taste. He’s got ambitions and Liberty is a complication he doesn’t want. But neither can deny the attraction between them, a fire that’s both magical and dangerous.

Then Hardy is gone. Raising the young sister who needs her and tending her bruised heart, Liberty is vulnerable to the charms of a billionaire tycoon. Everyone thinks Liberty has found a sugar daddy, but the bond they share goes deep, and leads her to discover secrets about her family and the past.

Two very different men. One spirited woman. True love or heartache. The choice is Liberty’s to make . . . .

Publishers Weekly “……chronicle of Liberty Jones’s rise from the trailer park to life in a Texas mansion. The daughter of a Hispanic father (who dies during Liberty’s childhood) and a white mother, Liberty pines for the hunky bad boy Hardy Cates while mom Diana has another daughter, Carrington, and scores the occasional windfall to keep the family afloat. After Diana is killed in a traffic accident, Liberty raises Carrington, gets a beauty school scholarship and lands a gig at an exclusive Houston salon. There she meets investment mogul Churchill Travis, who takes a paternal shine to her. A horse-riding accident puts Churchill in a wheelchair, and he hires Liberty to be his personal assistant, with the catch that both sisters have to live with him. Churchill’s oldest son, Gage, immediately distrusts Liberty, and their vicious bickering, as romance readers know, can lead to only one thing. Things get messy once Hardy, now rich, reappears and a Travis family secret is revealed. Though Liberty’s plight and redemption are straight out of the soaps and the prose has its trite moments, Kleypas’s many readers will root for Liberty, a fiery and likable underdog.”

MEET THE BLUE-EYED DEVIL –

His name is Hardy Cates. He’s a self-made millionaire who comes from the wrong side of the tracks. He’s made enemies in the rough-and-tumble ride to the top of Houston’s oil industry. He’s got hot blood in his veins. He’s broken all the rules . . . Now it’s time to for payback.

Haven Travis defied her wealthy family’s expectations and ran off with a dangerous man. Now she’s back, humbled and determined to protect her heart. Hardy Cates is her family’s enemy – and the last man Haven wants. But her heart pulls her closer to his fire, even though her head says stay away.

Hardy and Haven made heartbreaking choices before. Will they resist a passion they both know is wrong, even when it feels so right?

Narrator Brittany Pressley delivers an A-plus performance of Kleypas’s beloved Texas romance. Pressley introduces Haven Travis, daughter of an oil magnate, with a lilting drawl whose musical notes ring melodiously. Her declarative delivery packs an aural punch as Haven faces and later escapes a horrifically abusive husband. Hearing the menace that Haven’s husband, Nick, exudes is chilling. Starting over in Houston, Haven reconnects with rough-edged millionaire Hardy Cates. Pressley drops her voice a register to portray Hardy’s virile strength. Hardy’s protective nature and his verbal wiliness are also exquisitely expressed, convincing listeners that Hardy is Haven’s perfect match. The performance is a sensual delight, replete with romance, danger, and imperfect characters. A must-listen narration from Pressley. C.A. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award AudioFile 2020

· Smooth Talking Stranger

A sexy novel, rich with love, laughter, and steamy passion that sizzles with New York Times best-selling author Lisa Kleypas’s hallmark sensuality and delicious tension.

Millionaire Texas playboy Jack Travis lives for pleasure. He has money, women, and no commitments, and that’s just the way he likes it. Then a gorgeous stranger with an infant appears on his doorstep, rocking his carefree world.

Columnist Ella Varner liked her independent life too, until her wild younger sister Tara skipped town, leaving baby Luke in her responsible hands. Ella doesn’t know how to raise a child, and she’s not going to do it alone. The baby’s father – Jack – will have to help.

For the first time in his life, Jack can’t smooth talk his way out a jam. But the more he gets to know Ella and Luke, the more he discovers he doesn’t want to. Ella admits the charming Jack is sexy as hell. But if she lets her guard down will he break her heart?
As sparks fly and heat rises drawing them irresistibly closer, Jack and Ella will have to decide if they’re playing house . . . or playing for keeps.

This book is a charmer.

Publishers Weekly, February 2, 2009
Ella Varner grew up with a troublesome mother and an insecure sister, but she has managed to come out of it reasonably sane, with a good (if vegan) boyfriend, Dane, and a job as an advice columnist. All of this gets turned upside down when her sister disappears and sticks Ella with her newborn, Luke. Determined to find Luke’s father, Ella tracks down a likely suspect—millionaire playboy Jack Travis. The encounter results in Travis and Ella unexpectedly engaged in an irrepressible attraction. Meanwhile, Ella grows fond of baby Luke and fears what will happen when Tara returns. As Ella grapples with conflicting desires, she learns some important lessons about love and trust. Though Kleypas has trouble breaking her male characters out of archetype and the arc is familiar, Ella’s familial dysfunction distinguishes her from other heroines, and her self-awareness draws her out of a stereotypical shell. This will please romance fans, even if it hews a bit too closely to genre conventions.
